Selection tests now available in all 24 EU official languages

Do you have experience in the field of nuclear energy? Would you like to start an international career within a multicultural and diverse team? If the answer is yes, then you have another chance to apply for the competition for Administrators in the field of nuclear energy.

Starting from 2024, EPSO is reinforcing its commitment to multilingualism by implementing a full 24-language regime in open competitions. This change aims to enable candidates to freely select any two of the 24 official EU languages for testing. As part of this transition, the current competition will also undergo adjustments to its test portfolio, for instance, the case study will be replaced with a written test focusing on written communication skills assessed under a specific set of new anchors.

The competition is being re-opened to take those adjustments into account. This applies to both existing candidates and new candidates interested in applying.

  • Candidates who have already submitted their applications must review and validate them again, in order to continue to participate in this competition. They will have the opportunity to reconsider their test language choices and to add new information to their applications, as relevant. Further information will be provided individually to such candidates via their EPSO Accounts.

For information on the precise amendments to the initial Notice of competition EPSO/AD/411/23, please refer to the Notice amending the notice of open competition – EPSO/AD/411/23.

Upon successful completion of the competition, the candidates will be recruited as nuclear safeguards inspectors or policy officers in the area of nuclear energy. Recruited officials (grade AD 7) will work mainly for the European Commission in Luxembourg. Several positions will also be based in the sites of the Joint Research Centre (JRC).

Once on a reserve list, successful candidates may be contacted by the recruiting services of the EU institutions and bodies interested in their profile, for targeted recruitment interviews. Such interviews, and any other related procedures, are outside the selection process conducted by EPSO. Recruitment interviews are conducted by the relevant recruiting services usually in English and/or French. Other languages may also be used during the interviews, based on the needs of the recruiting services and the knowledge expressed by candidates in their applications.

As an administrator in the field of nuclear energy, your main tasks will vary depending on the chosen field. Please note that you may only apply for one of the following fields:

  • Field 1 – Nuclear safeguards inspectors: Successful candidates in this field will carry out duties related to nuclear safeguards inspections, research and project management;
  • Field 2 – Policy officers in the area of nuclear energy: Successful candidates in this field will carry out duties related to legislative, administrative, scientific, advisory, and supervisory activities.

Detailed information on the specific duties that successful candidates can expect to perform is included in the Notice of Competition.

These duties may include frequent missions and access to controlled areas of nuclear installations. Due to the sensitive and classified information handled, successful candidates may be asked to hold or be in a position to obtain in due time, a valid personnel security clearance certificate. This might imply that, as a pre-requisite for recruitment to certain posts, the successful candidates might be required to undergo the security clearance procedure which is carried out by the national competent authority in the Member State of their nationality. Candidates are advised to inform themselves about the procedure before applying to this competition.

As an employer, the institutions and agencies of the EU offer a community of expertise with a wide range of opportunities to broaden your personal and professional development. The multicultural, international and diverse teams that make up the institutions work together to benefit the lives of approximately 450 million EU citizens and beyond.
