I have a disability or illness that requires adjustments to my office equipment and/or work environment. Whom should I contact?

Please note that EPSO will not pass on any information regarding your disability and specific needs to recruiting departments, in order to respect data confidentiality and non-discrimination. If you require adjustments or have some specific needs, you must inform your future employer directly once you are recruited. If you wish to be informed of any positive action put forward by certain employers for people with disabilities, you can check the relevant box in your account. In this case, only your name and email address will be passed on to the recruiting departments.

Is there support for relocation?

Once you receive a job offer, our Welcome Offices in Brussels and Luxembourg will help you find your way and settle in. In particular, they can help you find accommodation (including vetting your rental contract). Information Days are regularly organised to help partners settle into life in the new country. Both Brussels and Luxembourg offer excellent national, European and international schools. We can put you in touch with crèches, playgroups and other facilities.

Can I work in a country other than Brussels or Luxembourg?

80% of jobs are based in Brussels and Luxembourg. The European Commission has representations in every EU country.  The European Parliament also has an information office in every EU country and the European External Action Service has delegations in locations around the world. The EU also has several agencies and decentralised bodies based in different countries. Find out which ones are based in your country.

For how long is my reserve list valid?

Reserve lists for permanent officials (generalists) are normally valid for one year (or three years for specialists). The validity of reserve lists may be prolonged according to the needs of the institutions. Being on a reserve list, however, does not guarantee recruitment.

How do the institutions recruit from EPSO lists?

As job opportunities arise, the institutions check the profiles of the successful candidates in order to identify those who best match their needs (for example, in terms of education, professional experience and language skills). The institutions may also choose to publish available vacancies to successful candidates of relevant selection procedures. The institutions may contact successful candidates for interview and, depending on the outcome, make a formal job offer. For practical reasons, candidates may also undergo a medical examination before any decision is taken on appointment.

Where will I work if I am recruited?

If successful, you can be recruited to work in an institution, body, office or agency of the European Union in either Brussels or Luxembourg. What is a 'reserve list'?

Applicants who pass a competition for permanent officials are placed on a reserve list from which the institutions draw recruits as and when they need them. The aim of a competition, then, is not to fill a specific post, but to constitute a reserve pool for recruitment needs as they arise. If you are one of the highest-scoring applicants in the assessment phase, you will be placed on the reserve list. This means you may be selected for a job interview at one of the EU institutions. Reserve lists for generalist competitions are valid for 1 year. For other profiles, they are valid for longer.
