I have been a Danish translator in the European Commission since 2017, but my path to Brussels has been far from direct. As a translator, I get an insight into all of the European Commission’s policy areas, as I work with all types of documents: from legislation and reports to press material and website content. Therefore, as translators, not only do we gain broad knowledge of all EU policies, we also get to communicate them.

We mainly translate from English to our mother tongue, but I also get a chance to use my other European languages on a frequent basis (German, French, Spanish, and some Dutch). To help us deal with an increasing workload and tight deadlines we use tools such as machine translation, memories and term bases.

My background is quite international, covering 8 countries and 9 languages. I originally graduated in Japanology and taught Japanese at university. Since then, I have worked with languages and communication all over the world – in both public institutions and private companies – in the fields of teaching, marketing, and public relations.
