Language comprehension tests (AD)

The language comprehension test includes a series of 12 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), which are designed to assess your linguistic abilities in terms of vocabulary, grammar/syntax constructions and style. They are not in the field of a specific institution/agency/service. Each question is based on a scenario linked to four different answer options, only one of which is correct. Each question yields one point and wrong answers are not penalised. Candidates have 30 minutes in total at their disposal to answer to the 12 multiple-choice questions.  While the time factor is part of the assessment as well, the tests are designed in a way to allow candidates to possibly answer all questions within the allocated timeframe. Questions do not require additional knowledge and are only based on the information provided in the text.

Role Play

During this test, the candidate plays a role in a one-to-one interaction with a role player.

The role play itself lasts around 15 – 20 minutes and allows testing several general competencies.

It consists in a meeting with the role player about the situation. The trained role player may provide additional information during the meeting, according to a semi-structured script.

Situational Competency Based Interview (SCBI)

An interview that aims to assess general competencies by asking the candidate how he/she would react in a specific situation.

Case study (AD Specialist)

This is a computer-based test based on a relevant scenario, in which the candidate is faced with various problems that the candidate is asked to solve or to which the candidate must react, relying solely on the material provided.

The Case Study assignment assesses the written communication competency. Markers (i.e. those individuals who mark the tests) base their assessment on the specific anchors of this competency. EPSO markers are advised that grammar or spelling mistakes in themselves should not be taken into consideration in the assessment.

Competency based interview (CBI)

The competency-based interview is designed to evaluate a number of selected general competencies, depending on the competition and grade the candidate has applied for, as specified in the Notice of Competition.

Candidates are interviewed for about 10 minutes per competency.

The questions are structured to allow the assessors  to evaluate the candidate’s selected general competencies.

Field related interview

The test is designed to evaluate some or all (see the Notice of competition) of the competences inherent to the duties required for a specific profile. It is a structured interview by two members of the Selection Board. The interview is in the candidates' second language. The pass mark is indicated in the Notice of competition. The specific competency-based interview/field related interview should not be confused with the general competency-based interview, which is also structured but which focuses on general competencies rather than specific duties.

Written test in the field

This is a computer-based test designed to evaluate some of the competencies inherent to the duties required for a particular profile.

Drawing on specific documents, candidates will have to write about the ways to address a given situation.

Field-related multiple choice questionnaire

The field-related multiple choice questionnaire includes a series of questions, which are designed to test the inherent competence to the duties required for the specific profile. Each question is linked to four different answer options, only one of which is correct.

Further information is indicated in the notice of competition and in the invitation letter.
